About Bryony

Since becoming a parent at 23, I have been fascinated by the ways people are supported through pregnancy, birth and the transition to parenthood. Both personally and professionally, I have seen how much difference it can make when people feel connected, understood and well supported during this significant stage of life.

Before moving into perinatal work, I studied permaculture and sustainability and worked in community engagement roles in both Australia and the UK. Much of that work focused on bringing people together, strengthening communities and supporting collaboration around shared goals. Looking back, that thread of community-building has remained at the heart of everything I do.

I have practised yoga in various forms since 2002 and discovered Birthlight during my second pregnancy. I attended local Birthlight classes from pregnancy through to baby yoga and was deeply inspired by both the ethos and the positive impact it had on my family. What began as a participant's experience eventually led me to train as a teacher and become part of the Birthlight community myself.

Today, my work brings together many different strands. I teach pregnancy and baby yoga, offer private support for families during pregnancy and early parenthood, facilitate community groups and work as a qualified counsellor in private practice. Over the years I have also worked as a birth and postnatal doula, provided online wellbeing support through Ormiston Families' Small Steps Together programme, and trained Birthlight teachers in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Australia.

I have a longstanding interest in body image, self-compassion and body liberation. Earlier in my career I taught body-positive yoga classes, and this perspective continues to inform my work today. I am interested in how people can develop a more compassionate relationship with their bodies while also recognising the wider social and cultural pressures that shape how we see ourselves. Pregnancy, birth, parenting and ageing all bring changes to our bodies, and I believe everyone deserves support that is respectful, inclusive and free from appearance-based judgement.

Alongside my counselling practice, I created Baby Village and Growing Together Village, two communities designed to reduce isolation, foster connection and create space for reflection and support. These communities reflect something I have come to believe strongly through both my personal and professional experience: parenting is often made much harder when we are trying to do it alone.

Whether I am working with someone in a counselling session, teaching a yoga class or facilitating a group discussion, I am interested in the whole person. I believe that our experiences of pregnancy, birth, parenting and family life are shaped not only by what happens to us, but by our relationships, communities, histories and the wider world around us.

I undertake regular continuing professional development and remain committed to learning, reflection and ongoing growth in my work. I approach all my work with an LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, anti-racist and body-liberatory stance.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, making things with my hands, and getting out into the garden whenever I can.
